Are you interested in learning more about how to become a data scientist? Then make sure to check out my webinar: what it's like to be a data scientist.

My name is Stylianos (Stelios) Kampakis and I am a data scientist.

I have been academically active in the area of data science for around 5 years, and 3 years as a professional. Coming from a diverse background (that includes soft sciences such as Psychology and music studies, to a PhD in Computer Science and a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics) has given me a unique perspective in the world of data science.

Throughout my career my main drives has been scientific curiosity and the search for knowledge and objective truth. In our age, the best method by far we’ve come up with until now is data analysis. The different perspectives on the use of data (statistics, machine learning, data mining, qualitative methods, etc.) gave rise to the term “data science“.

Some people dispute the use of the validity of the term “data science”, but in my opinion, data science can now be treated as a new field on its own. This blog will outline my opinions and  insights about this new field.

More specifically, I have created this blog for the following reasons:

1) I want to share some of my opinions and perspectives with others, whether they are fellow data scientists, or professionals that care about the field (e.g. academics or executives).

2) I want to make data science accessible to a non-technical audience.

3) I want to educate new data scientists in the field.

This blog will be a mix of technical articles, articles for a wider audience and, occasionally, articles not focused on data science with topics such as startups, blockchain or science in general.

Besides my blog make sure you also check out my courses and services.

I hope that you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it! Feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions!
